The nonsense of a dreamer

I wonder...

Saturday, July 29, 2006

I remember the first time that IT happened, over 25 years ago…I had a dream, dream? No, a nightmare…I was leaving a grocery store, a woman, mid 20’s, attractive, wearing a t-shirt and a pair of bellbottom jeans, was leaving the store the same time that I was. Her car was parked in the spot next to mine. As we walked to our spots, she had got in her red car, started the engine, and pulled out of the parking lot. As she drove onto the busy street, she was broadsided by a pickup. The truck plowed into the drivers side of the car, knocking the woman into the passenger side of her car, well, most of her was knocked into the passenger side. At that point, I woke with a sharp intake of breath. The dream had troubled me, because I rarely had dreams of that type. Well, later that day, as I was leaving a store after a shopping trip, I saw a woman leaving the store. This woman looked familiar, but I could not place her. I knew that I had seen her before. Maybe it was what she wore, the bellbottoms and t-shirt stood out, and that is when I realized that this woman was from my dream. I stood by the store’s sliding doors and watched her get in her red car, start the engine, and pull out onto a very busy street. I was glued to the ground as I watched, powerless to stop the events that were about to unfold. As the woman pulled out of the parking lot, she was smacked by a truck that was speeding. The truck had to be going at least 60 miles per hour. The small car didn’t have a chance, nor did its passenger. I stood there transfixed by the site that I was seeing. Not really believing it. No one would believe that I dreamed this. I didn’t believe that I had the dream.
